Mexico's Martyrs and the Secret War Against the Church

Msgr. Murphy gave a riveting presentation on the Mexican Martyrs of the early 19th century. It is a story of suffering, great faith, persecution, determination and perseverance against all odds. If you get a chance to hear him speak on this again do not miss it! He is the author of a book on one of the martyrs, St. Toribio Romo, whose relic is contained in the altar of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in downtown Sacramento. What did you think of the presentation?

Msgr. Murphy is a terrific speaker. His slide show made his story come to life. I had no idea, the Mexican government long ago tried to neutralize the church, and the Catholics in Mexico stood up to them. I wish we had such fervor for the Church this day in age.

I was impressed that an Irishman would be so interested and well-informed about this period in Mexico's history. The faith and the sacrifices of the Mexican people were brought to life and honored by Msgr. Murphy's expert presentation. I hope other organizations invite him to present his material. This is a story that must be told.
